I also believe it is considered a classic because it was so brilliantly written. The similes and metaphors used in the literature magnificent and Verne describes every sea creature and formation so thoroughly it is like reading a poem. This was a very key aspect in literature in this time. Verne was the first to expand ideas in science through literature and that is what makes this and many of his books "classics." To me a classic is a book that is known especially for a certain aspect like description or style or even simply it being in this case unique and separated from other works of literature. ...
